BY THE 1970s,
J. Freeland Chryst had
established himself as
a trusted partner in the
promotions business. Location
proved critical to The
Jay Group's success. The
availability of seasonal
labor (mainly from the
Amish farming community) helped satisfy
holiday rushes. And then
there's the "megalopolis" factor
- which defines Lancaster
County as being easily
accessible to many major
cities - which cut down
on distribution costs.
While promotions were still
the heart of The Jay Group's
operations, the company
began to offer more support
services including a call
center, fulfillment and
transportation. By the
end of this decade, The
Jay Group was seen as one
of the leaders in incentive
marketing.
